As part of this year’s Open House Hobart festival, Kevin McCloud and Tim Ross will present a special event for Tasmanian audiences on 6 November.

Produced by the Australian Institute of Architects, the one-off show will be an exclusive event as part of Open House Hobart. Fittingly hosted in the restored Hobart College Theatre, the show brings the duo’s captivating witticism and design enthusiasm to the stage.

UK Grand Designs presenter McCloud and Australian comedian and self-proclaimed design nerd Ross have developed an audience of like-minded, design-obsessed listeners over three seasons of their hit podcast Tim & Kev’s Big Design Adventure. With five years of friendship and work shared between them, they’ve come to be known for their infectious on-air repartee and storytelling.

The special event brings two of the design industry’s most beloved commentators together for a night all about architecture and design in a celebrated modernist venue. Designed by the Department of Public Works, Tasmania Government, with project architects John Gott and Ben Ryan, the theatre originally opened in 1972 and was thoughtfully restored by Cumulus Studio in 2020.

It forms part of the Hobart College precinct, recognised with the Australian Institute of Architects Tasmanian Chapter’s Enduring Architecture Award for its lasting architectural significance.

“When Open House Hobart asked if we could make a video to promote its upcoming program, we decided to up the ante and actually become part of it – because we love Tassie,” says Ross.

“I concurred with my Australian friend, because I’ve been wanting to get back to Tasmania for years,” adds McCloud. “And I promise our live show will be both edifying and entertaining.”
