Livable City Design Laboratory

September 4, 2009

An event creating new visions for Melbourne as a ‘Livable City’ in 2040.

Melbourne Water, Design Laboratory and State of Design Festival – Creating a Livable City 2040.

The Livable City Design Laboratory will explore the role of water in creating a livable city. What is the tap of the future, the garden of the future, the local park of the future? How might water integrate with the built environment and enhance our way of life, support sustainable lifestyles, reduce energy use, and be valued by our community? What roles do our rivers and creeks play in the design and future livability of our city? How can inner city suburbs morph into cool and green places, whilst outer suburbs evolve into low impact, intelligent spaces?

The event will bring together 200 industry leaders from across a broad range of professional disciplines to generate ideas and build networks. This new forum means to take innovative ideas beyond a concept. A review panel will commission selected individuals and/or organisations to develop a selection of curated ideas generated at the Livable City Design Laboratory to be part of an exhibition during the 2010 State of Design Festival.

*Where* NGV International, St Kilda Road, Melbourne
