World Architecture Festival

October 2, 2011

Barcelona hosts the fourth annual WAF, a global festival celebrating the most outstanding architecture and interior projects from across the world.

The three-day World Architecture Festival (WAF) takes place in Barcelona from 2-4 November 2011. This year marks the fourth iteration of the festival, which first launched in 2008.

Pitched as the world’s largest live and interactive architecture awards program, the festival brings together architects, suppliers and clients from across the globe for a series of live presentations, a thematic exhibition, seminars and presentations, product showcases and a prestigious awards ceremony.

281 projects from 59 countries have been shortlisted for this year’s World Architecture Festival Awards, which includes 34 categories within three main sections: Completed Buildings, Structural Design and Future Projects. The live presentations will see every shortlisted practice present their shortlisted projects to their peers and the international judging panel.

Alongside the awards presentations, a program of seminars and keynote presentations offers attendees an opportunity to hear some of the most influential, innovative and stimulating architects speak about this year’s theme: Difference. The program will focus on how architects have responded to political, cultural, ethnic, gender, social and economic differences across the world.

A new addition to the program this year is the *INSIDE World Festival of Interiors*. The WAF Interiors and Fit Out category has evolved into this new festival, celebrating the most accomplished interiors from around the world. This sister event will run from 2-3 November at the CCIB. At the heart of the festival is the awards scheme, to be judged by a panel of global design experts including Ilse Crawford, Andre Fu, Robert Backhouse, Marcus Fairs, Jaime Hayon and Paul Priestman.
