Sydney – Now and When: Australian Urbanism

June 29, 2011

The Now and When: Australian Urbanism exhibition from the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale, curated by John Gollings and Ivan Rijavec, on show at Sydney’s Object Gallery.

Following its huge success at the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale, the ‘Now and When: Australian Urbanism’ exhibition will be on show at Sydney’s Object Gallery.

The exhibition was presented at the Australian Pavilion at the 12th Venice Architecture Biennale, designed to encourage debate on the future of our cities, sustainability, urban sprawl and density, and immigration.

Curated by architectural photographer John Gollings and architect Ivan Rijavec, the exhibition features a series of spectacular stereoscopic 3D photography of the existing Australian urban condition, which form the ‘Now’ part of the show. The ‘When’ component features speculative visions of Australian cities in 2050 and beyond, with 17 winning proposals selected for the exhibition and rendered in super-real 3D images by visualisation specialists, FloodSlicer.

The exhibition received record-breaking numbers of visitors at the 12th Venice Architecture Biennale, and is now touring the world and Australia. Object Gallery is hosting the dramatic visual experience in Sydney from 2 July until 25 September 2011.
