Sydney: AJ+C unveils design inspiration for Berry Sports Hall

March 30, 2010

Allen Jack + Cottier architect, Michael Heenan, discusses the design inspiration behind the award-winning Berry Sports and Recreation Hall.

Hear how the modest Berry Sports and Recreation Hall beat London’s Wimbeldon Centre Court and the New York Jets Training Facility to win Best Sports Building in the World Architecture Festival Awards in Barcelona.

Award-winning architect Michael Heenan of Allen Jack+Cottier (AJ+C) will talk about how the endless Australian sky inspired him to design a magical building that blends with the starry night sky.

Using precast concrete punctuated with hundreds of shards of glass, the building allows sunlight to filter in during the day and interior lights to shine out. The entire building is an overt expression of its ecologically sustainable features.
