Independent design collective and green technology experts DIY Kyoto have designed the Wattson, a multi-award-winning energy monitor that tracks the amount of energy your home is consuming. The product, specified by architects and interior designers in the UK, is now available in Australia.
The portable monitor receives information via a transmitter attached to your electricity meter or fuse box, and displays energy use in dollars or watts. It is powered by batteries or a power supply making it a maintenance-free meter.
Wattson can also measure renewable energy which means if you are storing power through solar panels or wind turbines, it will measure how much you are generating. For households that are connected to the electricity grid as part of the feed-in tariffs run in different states in Australia, the Wattson will help monitor how much energy is being fed back into the grid.
Wattson has enjoyed great success in the UK since it launched in 2006, and is now available in Australia. It captures data for up to 4 weeks, which can then be downloaded via USB to Holmes software, and the DIY Kyoto website, allowing users to monitor the data and communicate with other users online.
Available online at [“INA Solutions”:http://www.inasolutions.com.au/shop/] and at Neco Superstore (VIC), Todae (NSW) and SOLAR-MAN (SA).
Now in its eleventh year, Shaw Contract’s Design Awards program honors architecture and design firms that are changing the way people engage and interact with a space.
