The Ricotta lamp is a distinctive new lighting design created by designer Simone LeAmon and Australian lighting manufacturer Rakumba.
Two years in the making, Ricotta is the first design by LeAmon for Rakumba and marks the first project in a series of design collaborations that will bring the creative ideas of Australian designers and the manufacturing know-how of Rakumba together.
LeAmon’s design is a tribute to the craftspeople and fabricators that work at Rakumba. Ricotta features a wire cage that wraps around a pleated cotton shade – an inside-out interpretation of the traditional lamp shade that celebrates the skill of the wire fabricators.
The lamp also features a delicate lamp shade made from pleated cotton. The vertical pleated lines of the cotton and the horizontal lines of the wire frame give the lamp its name – creating a pattern that resembles a ricotta cheese mould, a reference made by the craftswomen at Rakumba who pleat the cotton shade.
The freestanding floor lamp has a powder-coated steel base available in white, black and chartreuse.
Founded in 1968, Rakumba is a leading manufacturer of custom-made lighting, specialising in bespoke production and on-site prototyping and manufacturing. The Ricotta lamp was launched at Lightsource in Melbourne (July 2011) and Saturday InDesign in Sydney (August 2011).
Available through Rakumba.
Working with Edra from the start, Italian designer Francesco Binfaré has produced some of the brand's classics, including the recent Pack and Chiara sofa.
