Created in celebration of Poltrona Frau’s one-hundred year anniversary, British designer Benjamin Hubert’s Juliet chair is a fashion-inspired piece with rich upholstery and complex details. The design was the winner in a competition that saw 12 designers conceptualise armchair designs in celebration of the Italian company’s centenary.

Taking his cues from a particular fashion detail – the puff sleeve, or ‘Juliet’ sleeve – Hubert’s take on the armchair features a traditional wooden frame that is narrower at the base and widens into a ‘puff’ at the seat. The upholstery is the main feature of the chair. Stretched leather has been used on the base and back, revealing the timber framework of the chair, while the leather upholstery on the seat has been ‘tri-pleated’ to give a looser, softer, and more inviting appearance.
