Launched at this year’s Milan Furniture Fair, Corniches is a flexible shelving system inspired by nature, designed by French brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra.

Corniches translates to rock ledge and the pieces reference the creative solutions found in nature – a theme commonly explored by the designers in their other creations, including Algae for Vitra and Papyrus for Kartell. Ronan Bouroullec says of their inspiration: ”The same way that we hang our belongings on a rock jutting from a cliff before diving into the sea, we need small, informal storage in everyday life too.”

Corniches aim to create impromptu storage spaces, encouraging invention and creativity in their organisation and offering a welcome change from the straight edges of other shelving systems. The pieces are round-edged and available in three sizes, accommodating a range items and displays.

They’ve done it again! Every time something catches my eyes, it’s sure to be another Bouroullec marvel. These guys are legends, I love the uncomplicated nature of their aesthetic and I want these Corniches!
