Yamaha melds sound and light

January 15, 2014

The LSX-700, part of the ‘Relit’ Series from Yamaha, is a tower which combines wireless audio and lighting via an array of step-adjustable LEDs.

The LSX-700 features Bluetooth and Aux connectivity, six lights and treble, mid-range and bass speakers. Both audio and light can be controlled via a card-style remote or Yamaha’s free DTA Controller app for iOS and Android devices. A smart timer offers multi-day programming, including sleep mode, and audio setting adjustments.

“In the design of Relit, I paid special attention to expressing sound through light in a unique and attractive way,” says designer Masaharu Ohno. “In order to create the impression of ‘Light as the visualization of sound’, the light source is located in the same position as the speaker unit. Striking patterns of light and shadow are created on the wall as the light filters through the speaker grille. Unique lighting effects can be achieved in the ‘time’ and ‘space’ in which the music is experienced, creating a sense of calm and composure.”

Yamaha Music Australia Product Manager Wesley Fischer says the company is breaking the mould: “The integration of lighting sees the LSX-700 take a strikingly bold step away from the crowd, creating a statement piece in the home.”

The LSX-700 lighting/audio system is available in Night Black or Chocolate Brown leather-textured finishes, with a recommended retail price of $699, from the following retailers:
