FAB28 Denim from Smeg

January 1, 2013

Smeg and Italia Independent’s retro, denim-clad refrigerator is now available in Australia.

Renowned Italian home appliance manufacturer, Smeg, has collaborated with Lapo Elkann, CEO of fashion label Italia Independent and heir to the Fiat car manufacturing company, to release a limited edition refrigerator clad in denim, the FAB28 Denim.

The hugely successful FAB28 refrigerator from Smeg is already available in a multitude of bright or pastel hues, and adorned with stripes or different national flags, but now the company has launched its first tailored design. FAB28’s retro curves have been covered with a layer of dark denim, complete with yellow seam stitching, to mimic a pair of jeans.

The collaboration stemmed from Smeg and Italia Independent’s shared desire to combine the enduring style of the FAB28 refrigerator with a contemporary, up-to-date technology. The denim has been treated with nano plasma technology, which ensures the material is durable and won’t fade or stain.

Inside, the fridge has a 222-litre capacity with an additional 26 litre-capacity compact freezer compartment, and it has been given a 3.5 star energy rating.

The playful design has been produced in a limited edition of 500 pieces. First unveiled at the Milan Furniture Fair in April 2012, the FAB28 Denim is now available in Australia.
