Cairo cushions, by Karim Rashid

December 14, 2012

Inspired by traditional Egyptian textiles, Karim Rashid’s Cairo cushions complement his Float sofa, mixing bright colours and organic geometry with traditional elements.

You may already know about New York designer Karim Rashid’s Float sofa, presented at this year’s Milan Furniture Fair in May (it’s hard to miss!), in all its colourful modular glory. In the detail of the design’s headrests, however, is a specially designed fabric called Cairo.

Inspired by traditional textiles from Egypt, where Rashid was born, the Cairo fabric appears on the various Float designs but is also available as separate cushions. Bringing a strong contemporary approach to the designs, Rashid mixes bright colours and organic geometry with the traditional elements of the design.

The Cairo cushions are available for purchase in Australia through KE-ZU.
