Art Hide

August 31, 2011

Art Hide, a new Australian company that launched in early 2011, specialises in high quality cowhide as a luxurious interior finish.

A new textile company that launched recently in Australia is Art Hide, specialising in high quality cowhide as a luxurious interior finish.

Art Hide has a classic collection of natural floor rugs and wall coverings made from Argentinian cowhide, and is also introducing a range of contemporary new hide techniques and treatments to the Australian market.

Along with the classic collection of rugs made from the hides in their natural finish, the company also works with a range of vibrant dyed hides and can create intricate patterns on the surface of the hide using a laser burning technique. The company is now promoting hides as a high quality and long lasting material for interior fitouts that can be beautifully customised with different dyes, stitching and patterns.

The company was founded by director Kura Perkins, who drew inspiration from a trip to Argentina. Having seen too many bad hides and tapestries across the country, Perkins unearthed a high quality rug in a jewellery store in a small rural town – and made contact with the rug’s creator.

Perkins returned to Western Australia and founded Art Hide in early 2011, importing the premium cowhides from Argentina. The company has created a number of bespoke installations and office fitouts to date, including a custom-made wall installation in Perth restaurant Sentinel Bar and Grill.
