PP501/PP503 chair

March 10, 2011

First designed in 1949, this classic piece by Hans Wegner helped bring Danish design to international attention.

Called ‘The Round One’ by its designer Hans Wegner in reference to the curved backrest, this chair is perhaps one of the most famous Danish furniture pieces of them all.

PP501, designed in 1949, was published in 1950 in American design magazine _Interiors_ – marking the start of the international breakthrough of Danish design. Yet its designer remained unimpressed with the piece and its basic construction, reportedly saying: “They could have made this hundreds of years ago, nothing new here.”

PP503 was designed in 1050, and features a similar frame with the addition of an upholstered seat.

Manufactured by PP Mobler, available in Australia and New Zealand exclusively through Corporate Culture and Cult.
