Gentle chair by Front

April 27, 2012

Gentle, a new chair designed by Swedish group Front for Porro, is an elegant and intriguing piece with two contrasting arches in leather and timber.

Swedish designers Front presented the Gentle chair for Italian brand Porro at the Milan Furniture Fair 2012.

Reminiscent of the classic bentwood chair, Gentle is a simple looking piece that belies a more complex project. The chair features a soft black leather seat, with a matching flexible back comprised of a thick metal spring wrapped in leather. The chair’s front legs are crafted from a pale timber, which loop up and around the backrest to form arms.

The design explores ideas of contrast, with the shift in colour reflecting the change in material – from metal wrapped in soft, dark leather to pale, uncoated timber. The result is an elegant, contemporary and intriguing piece, with two different elements brought together to create a harmonious whole.
