The Queensland Design on Show (qdos) Awards have been announced, with Infinity Design Developments Enviromesh receiving the top Award of Excellence Honours as well as receiving a Gold Award in the Three Dimensional Industrial Design category.
Enviromesh is a lightweight alternative to steel in concrete reinforcement. The mesh was created to reduce labour costs involved with concrete reinforcement. The product also removes steel from the process, reducing the risk of corrosion associated with steel, with the aim of ‘significantly improv[ing] the longevity of all civil engineering structures.’
The awards program covers a broad range of categories, encompassing 3D Design, Interior Design and Visual Communication Design, as well as Emerging Student categories. Three winners were also recognised with an Award of Excellence: Infinity Design for Enviromesh in the 3D Design category, HASSELL for the HASSELL Brisbane Studio in the Interior Design category, and Donovan Hill/Wilson Architects Q Garland in the Visual Communication Design category.
HASSELLs Brisbane Studio is located in a former bread factory. Its open plan is designed to encourage collaboration and interaction within the practice.
The Q Garland by Donovan Hill/Wilson Architects was a temporary installation as part of the Ideas Festival, engaging the public with ideas about the use of public spaces.
Also recognised at the awards were Brisbane architects Arkhefield, who received seven awards in the Interior Design category, including three Gold Awards for Elysium Lot 153 (New Residential Design), 82 Eagle Street (Best Use of Lighting) and UQ Rural Clinical School (Public Institutional Interior Design).
The qdos is a state awards program initiated and hosted by the Design Institute of Australia, Queensland Branch to promote Queensland designers and their work. It has been running since 2002.
