The Melbourne office of architecture cooperative Office 24/7 has won the DawnTown architecture competition, with their concept for the Metromover Station.

The firm’s redesign of Miami’s rail system is conceived as an iconic building connected to a new public plaza, which hopes to change the way users interact with the station. The façade houses an interactive display screen – called a ‘diaphragm’ – projecting videos, signs and installations to visitors inside and outside the station, encouraging the public to use the building “in a proactive way”.

The firm describes their project, which they describe as “new urban living”, in the video accompanying their competition entry.

Dawntown is an annual ideas competition, whose mission is “to bring innovative architecture to Downtown Miami, and to tell the exciting urban story of Downtown Miami to the world”.

The Melbourne-based office 24/7 team comprised Rosalea Monacella, Craig Douglas and Armando Oliver Suinaga.
