On the 26th of this month, Riddel Architecture (RA) will officially join Conrad Gargett Architecture (CGA) to become Conrad Gargett Riddel.

Having had a close relationship for a number of years, CGA and RA will become a new combined team focusing on contemporary design and heritage conservation.

“We are very pleased to have RA on board,” says Bruce Wolfe, Managing Director of CGA, who believes that the merging of the two practices will enable a better, broader and deeper service – with RA bringing complementary experience in education, commercial, residential and aged care projects.

“They are a great team and will strengthen our practice, particularly in the areas of heritage and conservation consultancy.”

Founder and Principal of RA, Robert Riddel, says “we are all looking forward to joining CGA and combining out expertise for the best possible project outcomes”.

Riddel will become a Principal and his fellow RA Director, David Gole, will become Senior Associate of Conrad Gargett Riddel.

CGA’s projects include the new Queensland Children’s Hospital with Lyons (current), the National Trust of Queensland’s major award-winning adaptive reuse and restoration of Old Government House, the St Stephen’s Francis Rush Centre and the State Law Building (commonly known as Gotham City). RA’s noteworthy projects include the restoration and adaptive reuse of Brisbane Customs House, the nationally awarded restoration of the Former West’s Furniture Showroom and the internationally recognised Hill End Ecohouse.

Conrad Gargett Riddel will operate from the current CGA offices in Brisbane, Sydney and Townsville.

Congratulations to all concerned, a commendable move.

As a matter of extraordinary coincidence, exactly 60 years ago on this day November 22, Bill (WAH) Conrad and I received our RAAF Wings from AVM George Jones at Archerfield while serving with No 23 City of Brisbane Squadron Citizen Air Force. We both went on after our flying days to enjoy long, happy careers in Architecture.
