The City of Charles Sturt has announced a design competition due to launch in January, which seeks compelling design proposals to reinvigorate South Australia’s Henley Square and the surrounding precinct. The competition is open to registered architects and landscape architects in Australia.
The competition will involve two stages – an open Stage 1 and a shortlisted Stage 2. Up to three shortlisted teams will receive an honorarium of $15,000 to undertake design development of their Stage 1 submissions. At the end of Stage 2, a jury of experts will select the winner, who will then be contracted to complete design development of their winning submitted design, through to completion of the redevelopment.
The jury will consist of Catherin Bull, Professor Emeritus at the University of Melbourne and adjunct professor at Queensland University of Technology; Tanya Court, AILA/SA Chapter President and senior lecturer at Adelaide University; Ben Hewett, SA Government Architect, Executive Director of the Office for Design and Architecture SA and jury chair; Henry Inat, General Manager City Services, City of Charles Sturt; Debra Just, General Manager, Urban & Portfolio Planning, Urban Renewal Authority; and Philip Thalis, Principal, Hill Thalis Architecture + Urban Projects.
Registration will open on 14 January 2013 and closes on 4 February 2013.
