ANZs global headquarters, the ANZ Centre in Melbournes Docklands designed by HASSELL and Lend Lease, has been named Development of the Year at the Property Council of Australia 2011 awards.
The project was described by Property Council of Australia CEO Peter Verwer as an outstanding showcase of the great outcomes our industry can produce. Verwer added: The building has not only achieved global benchmarks in environment and sustainability, but has reinvigorated the entire Melbourne Docklands precinct.
Designed by HASSELL and Lend Lease design, the 83,550sqm building is currently the largest single tenanted commercial building in Australia. Environmental initiatives include underfloor air distribution, wind turbines and a blackwater system to reduce water consumption inside the ten-storey building.
Inside, the design is conceived as an urban campus with a large central atrium and a ground-level hub that includes cafes, public art and a visitor centre, catering for more than 6,500 staff while also inviting the public into the banks headquarters.
The ANZ Centre was selected as the overall winner from a pool of more than 100 finalists from across the country. In all, winners in 14 categories were announced at the 2011 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards, held in Sydney on 14 May.
