Creative director and strategist Lou Weis will lead the 2010 State of Design Festival, which takes place in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victorian locations this July.
Weis has worked with several architecture firms in Australia and abroad, creating large-scale temporary installations that focus on the history and contemporary place of spectacle in the urban environment.
He is the founding director of the Salone del Mobile Joint Venture a collaborative program for Australian designers working together to optimise export strategies; has consulted on design to The Australian Council for the Arts (2006-2007); and acts as a consultant for individual design practices on business development strategies.
The theme for the 2010 festival is Change by Design, promoting the value of design as a practical tool for the creation of sustainable and competitive industries and smart, sustainable communities.
The State of Design Festival forms part of the Design Victoria Strategy run by the Victorian Government. It aims to increase the awareness of the value of good design, and showcase how design generates innovation, promotes sustainability and adds value to business and society.
The festival runs in locations in Melbourne and regional Victoria from 14-25 July 2010.
