Bjarke Ingels of Danish firm BIG has founded an idea-based industrial design firm in partnership with Lars Holme Larsen of Kilo Design and Jens Martin Skibsted of Skibsted Ideation.
Called KiBiSi, the new firm fuses the specialities of the three designers, who have already collaborated on multiple projects.
Describing the partnership as a symbiotic hybrid of design, architecture and ideation, the collaboration brings together the straightforward approach of industrial design firm Kilo Design, the experimental and thought provoking architectural design of BIG, and the idea-driven innovation and brand awareness of Skibsted Ideation.
Launching the firm, the three founders explained: “We believe the product should be the carrier of its brand idea rather than some designers form and formula. In the fertile overlap between Design, Architecture and Ideation, KiBiSi seeks to spawn a new breed of idea driven design.
The Copenhagen-based firm will bring together the experience and expertise of the founders, covering the fields of architecture, design, furniture, electronics, transportation, contemporary culture and lifestyle.
Early products launched by the firm include the EXPO chair, a molded plywood chair designed for the Danish EXPO Pavilion, Shanghai 2010 (produced by HAY); TMA headphones designed as a DJ tool (produced by Aiaiai); the Tube Chair, a stackable chair made from wood and aluminium (produced by HAY); and the Puma urban bike series.
