Matthew Sheargold wins Design Pitch

November 9, 2009

Matthew Sheargold’s magnetic fruit bowl won Design Pitch at the Corporate Culture showroom in Sydney on Monday evening.

It was design at its best last night at the Corporate Culture showroom in Chippendale, Sydney. Kicking off Idea Week this year was Design Pitch, a gathering of designers pitching a new product for export, with the winner receiving a trip to Salone in Milan next year.

The list of participants was a who’s who of acclaimed designers, including Trent Jansen, Adam Goodrum, DesignByThem, Kristian Aus, Rohan Nicol, Stephen Proctor and Helen Kontouris. They were joined by rising stars Lisa Vincitorio and Matthew Sheargold.

Each speaker had ten minutes to make their pitch to the audience, demonstrating that their product was the best, and their export plan the most innovative. The audience then voted for the winner based on the designers’ pitches.

Designs presented to the audience included a foldaway sustainable house to be used in disaster relief, a doll’s house, lights and furniture.

The winning design, however, was Matthew Sheargold’s fruit bowl, ‘six of one’. This bowl divides into six pieces and can be configured in many different designs to accommodate all manner of fruit and foods. The pieces are cleverly held together by magnets imbedded in the sides of each section, creating a strong, clean contour.

Our congratulations go to all the designers of this year’s Design Pitch for their excellent designs and informative and interesting talks. Matthew Sheargold will be winging his way to Milan in 2010 courtesy of Richard Munao of Corporate Culture, with his bowl under his arm and some contracts to arrange. Good luck to Matthew, we look forward to keeping up to date on your progress.
