A new installation from Andrew Aloisio transforms test tubes, stoppers and clamps into fashion accessories.

The New In Between: the final chapter
Andrew Aloisio reinterprets Kartell

‘The New In Between’ is the final chapter of the ‘Somewhere In Between’ installation created by Australian designer, Andrew Aloisio. The collection features fashion items crafted from Kartell’s Labware range, with recognisable lab objects used in totally different ways. The idea follows Kartell’s recent move into fashion accessories, with Aloisio finding the middle ground between fashion and labware.

Items such as test tubes, conical stoppers and glass clamps have been reinterpreted by Aloisio, and now exist as handbags, glasses and rings.

The collection follows Aloisio’s ‘Somewhere in Between’ installation, which looked at the two Kartell industries, Labware and Habitat. The 2008 installation used labware items to create lamps and tables.
