HASSELL claims triple win at the 2009 NT Architecture Awards

Darwin’s new waterfront Convention Centre by HASSELL wins three major accolades at this year’s Northern Territory Architecture Awards.

Announced late last Friday, 5 June, the Darwin Convention Centre by HASSELL, in association with Crawford Architects, has won the Tracy Memorial Award, the Reverend John Flynn Award for Public Architecture and the Colorbond Award for Steel Architecture at the 2009 Northern Territory Architecture Awards.

Constructed under Darwin’s $1.1 billion Darwin Cove Redevelopment scheme, the Convention Centre was selected from a broad range projects, spanning all of the Northern Territory. In awarding the prizes, the jury said: ‘The architects have developed an entirely functional and enjoyable flow of spaces which overview the public domain, and the harbor while progressing through well arranged and very adaptable meeting and conferencing facilities. This is a masterful piece of public architecture and a proud addition to the Darwin Waterfront.’

Troppo Architects NT also found acclaim for their project Urban Trajectories, receiving the:
* Ken Frey Award for Residential Architecture -Multiple Housing
* Architecture Award for Residential Architecture- Houses
* Sustainable Architecture Award Commendation
* Colorbond® Award for Steel Architecture Commendation
* Peoples Choice Award

All Award winners are now in the running for the National Architecture Awards, to be announced in Melbourne in late October.
