Flourmill wins award

April 24, 2009

Adaptive reuse of a former flourmill wins medal for Allen Jack+Cottier.

Located within Sydney’s inner west municipality of Marrickville, Flourmill Studios received the 2009 Marrickville Medal from the local Council.
“The owner and architects Allen Jack+Cottier have retained and restored important original artefacts, including line shafting and drive belts, and clearly distinguished between old and new building materials,” said Mayor of Marrickville, Sam Iskandar. “The result is an exciting building that contributes to the architectural character of Newtown and represents the spirit of conservation and heritage celebrated through the Marrickville Medal.” Director of Adaptive Re-use, Kate Mountstephens (pictured with the Mayor), was on hand to accept the medal.
