July 15, 2014

This year’s judging panel comprises noted industry peers and mentors including Malcom Carver, Melonie Bayl-Smith, Marissa Looby and AR editor Michael Holt.

One of Australia’s most respected architectural awards programs, the Cemintel 9 Dots Award has returned for the third consecutive year with an aim to unveil Australia’s gems in the architecture and design industry.

The award intends to break free from convention, to reimagine architectural possibilities and to redefine the typological ideas of the tight, urban block.

This year’s judging panel comprises noted industry peers and mentors including Malcom Carver, Melonie Bayl-Smith, Marissa Looby and AR editor Michael Holt. Together they have over 100 years of combined experienced and numerous awards and scholarships under their belt.

Entries for both the professional and the student category must incorporate the creative range of Cemintel’s trademark products including the Designer Series, BareStone, Edge Vertical Cladding and Expresswall into a design possibility that will redefine the typological ideas of the tight, urban block.

The winner in the professional category will receive a 17-day architectural study tour of Japan and China values at $16,000, while the student category winner receives $2,000 towards their study tuition and $500 cash prize to the highly commended recipient.

Entrants are required to submit their application directly to Cemintel before 28 August 2014.

Recounting his experience of the entry process, last year’s student runner-up Peter Brown said: “I value that 9 Dots is judged independently by architects and people that work in the industry which I intend to go into. It was an absolute honour and I thoroughly recommend any student considering entering, just have a crack and do it.”
