NGV’s Children’s Gallery presents Pastello: Draw Act

May 3, 2014

It is an interactive exhibition exploring the possibilities of drawing as visualised by Italian designing duo Erika Zorzi and Mateo Sangalli from Mathery Studio.

This May, the NGV’s Children’s Gallery will host Pastello: Draw Act, an interactive exhibition exploring the possibilities of drawing as visualised by Italian designers Erika Zorzi and Mateo Sangalli from Mathery Studio.

Budding young artists will get a chance to doodle on designated surfaces in unique style, using invented drawing gadgets such as crayon shoes and helmets. Enthusiastic about their creations, the designers said, “The idea of drawing with other parts of your body, on walls and on floors, will have immense appeal to children and adults alike.”

The project invites children to make new connections between drawing as an art form and a physical exercise. NGV Director Tony Ellwood says, “These immersive spaces will encourage an adventurous and unusual engagement for children to reconsider what art can be.”

The studio has combined elements from architecture, interior design, product, graphic and furniture design to form a playful learning environment for developing creative minds.

Pastello: Draw Act will be on show at the Children’s Gallery at NGV International from 10 May to 31 August.
Open daily, 10am to 5pm, closed Tuesday 13 May.
