RAHSite Design Competition People’s Choice Award last call

December 9, 2013

There is only one more day left to vote in the RAHSite Design Competition People’s Choice Award, with the independent expert jury’s winners as well as the People’s Choice winner being announced tomorrow, 10 December.

The South Australian Government launched the RAHSite Design Competition in July 2013 and after receiving 126 entries from 48 countries, the expert jury selected six finalists to further progress their ideas. The design competition required the finalists from Australia, Europe and South America to partner with local South Australian firms to complete their final design submissions. The designs are now available online and at a public exhibition at 35 Hindley Street, Adelaide South Australia.

The six finalists and their SA partners are: Slash (Victoria) with Phillips/Pilkington Architects; Zuzana & Nicholas (Queensland) with Roarkus Moss Architects; Oculus (New South Wales) & Fender Katsilidis Architects (Victoria) with DASH Architects; Nice Architects (Slovakia) with Mulloway Studios; Ysalazam (Colombia) with Siteplan; and Bonhag & De Rosa (Germany) with Taylor Cullity Lethlean.

Deputy Premier, John Rau says the final concepts from the six design competition finalists contain innovative and imaginative concepts for the site’s future use. Rau adds that the competition’s potential was being realised in that the government had a range of varied and exciting possibilities for the future of the site.

“One of the obvious themes that has come out of the final concepts is the ability for this 5.3 hectare site to have a mix of uses that will underpin the East End and connect to the city,” he says.

On 10 December, the independent expert jury’s winners will be announced at the same time as the People’s Choice winner. The competition winner will receive $200,000, the second prize winner $70,000 and third prize winner $30,000, while there is a $10,000 People’s Choice Award and two Student Awards of $2,500 each.
