Nordic Design Auction

November 27, 2013

Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers, Copenhagen, is auctioning off a collection of classic and rare Scandinavian design artefacts on 5 December 2013.

Above: 845/1351: Flemming Lassen: “The Tired Man”. Easy chair upholstered with original grey wool, partly fitted with buttons. Flemming Lassen, b. 1902, d. 1984. Estimate kr 300,000 (€ 40,000)

For those who dream of owning an original PH -4/3 (Poul Henningsen Pendent lamp) or an original Arne Jacobsen Egg chair in leather and more, this is arguably the most important auction of Scandinavian design to date.

The collection, comprises rare examples from the last century and includes furniture by Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl, Arne Jacobson, Flemming Lassen, Nanna Ditzel, Ib Koford-Larsen and Frits Henningsen. There is also an extraordinary selection of ceramics, with stoneware vases by Axel Salto, a highlight for connoisseurs.

For lighting enthusiasts the selection of PH lamps is exceptional. There is also a fabulous candelabrum by Piet Hein (Ursa Major, 1953) and a lovely pair of Arne Jacobsen standard lamps.

“We are proud to be able to present a number of pieces of the most important furniture from this period. What unites them is their common dedication to craftsmanship, combined with a soft, almost naive mode of expression. Many of them have not previously been put up for auction, while other extremely rare pieces are already iconic classics from the 1930s on the international design market,” explains Peter Kjelgaard of Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers.

There are options for online and telephone bidding.
