The South Australian Police headquarters is one of only five buildings awarded all three certifications – a 5 Star Green Star for Office Design, As Built and Office Interiors – nationally.
According to the project developer, Commercial & General’s Managing Director, Jamie McClurg, the key to the building’s impeccable green credentials was the prioritisation of indoor environment quality, water and energy efficiency throughout the building’s design, construction and fitout.
“This is a good example of a totally integrated approach and working closely with the client across all aspects of the project. Our team were responsible for delivering everything from the base building, through to almost every aspect of the fitout, right down to the desk drawers and recycling bins”, McClurg states.
Woodhead designed both the commercial building and customised interior fitout. Each floor incorporates a common breakout cafe space at the heart of the integrated fitout, and brings the building into line with current workplace expectations. These common spaces are light and spacious with comfortable seating, full kitchen facilities and expansive views of the eastern suburbs and Adelaide Hills.
The workplace performance increases are over and above the standard Property Council of Australia A-Grade level. A key parameter during the design outcome was to emphasise leadership and support as core functional activities, and to maximise flexibility and efficiency while satisfying specific security and cultural requirements to meet SAPOL’s stringent standards.
