Woods Bagot to design 1 William St, Brisbane

January 31, 2013

Woods Bagot have been announced as architects for the new 1 William Street tower in Brisbane’s CBD.

Woods Bagot have been announced as architects for the new 1 William Street tower in Brisbane’s CBD, along with Cbus Property who were appointed by the Queensland Government to develop the tower.

Set to stand at 258 metres, 1 William Street will become the city’s second tallest tower. According to Woods Bagot the building will not only add to the skyline but will create a rich pedestrian precinct at ground level.

“Our vision for 1 William Street is that it should be emblematic on the Brisbane city skyline,” says Mark Damant, principal architect at Woods Bagot’s Brisbane studio.

“As an organic fluid form, the tower will also be inclusive to the state and will sensitively mediate the rich environmental, architectural and social heritage of the site and the city.”

The site will be ordered into eight ‘platforms’ of public engagement, each with unique design qualities. The platforms will include an urban retail laneway, intimate sub-tropical botanical spaces, and a formalised entry space off William Street.

Inside, the working space aims to encourage transparency, accessibility, flexibility, integration and collaboration, and will be built around a unique central core that allows significant amounts of daylight and 360-degree views.

A splayed roof will add to the tower’s visual profile, while roof terracing will include landscaping elements.

Early site works will commence shortly and construction is set to begin in January 2014.
