The Design Institute of Australia (DIA) has elected a new National President and a number of new office bearers following the DIA National AGM held in Canberra last month.

James Harper FDIA was elected DIA National President, Kirsten Stanisich FDIA is the new DIA National Vice President and Julie Hobbs MDIA is the new DIA National Treasurer.

A dinner was hosted by DIA Past National President Oliver Kratzer LFDIA to mark the occasion, and was held with the New National Council, members of the DIA ACT Branch Council and special guests.

“I’m pleased and honoured to be taking over the reins as National President of the Design Institute of Australia,” said Harper – a trained architect and founding partner in Melbourne-based commercial interior design practice BrookingHarper.

“As one of Australia’s peak design bodies and only multi-disciplinary organisation for professional designers, the DIA owes a debt of gratitude to past presidents including David Robertson, Joanne Cys and Oliver Kratzer, as well as the efforts of National Councillors, the DIA National Office team and a host of State Councillors.

“I fundamentally believe in the need to provide a voice for the rapidly growing Australian design industry, and that the DIA can deliver this professionally, impartially and inclusively.

“I’m honoured to have this important role and look forward to serving the membership over the next two years.”

The DIA, active since 1947, promotes the value of design and designers to industry, business, government and the community. The DIA links its members with designers in over 40 countries.
