The winners of the Design Institute of Australia’s 2014 Australasian Graduate of the Year Awards (AGOTYA) were announced in Sydney on 28 May.

AGOTYA is the Design Institute of Australia’s (DIA) primary annual awards programme for emerging designers. It has become one of the most hotly contested award programmes by graduate designers across Australia and New Zealand.

Among the six design categories in this year’s awards, there were 24 Australasian winners from state-based GOTYA awards contesting the national AGOTYA contest.

The winner of the 2014 AGOTYA Award for Excellence was Andrew Godin of Monash University, who won first prize in the Object Design category and the overall AGOTYA prize for an outstanding portfolio of work.

The judges described Godin’s work as ‘demonstrating an extraordinary level of identifying solutions for everyday use’. His ‘Project Oasis’ concept of delivering ‘food from the farm to the fork’ was described as his standout project.

Design Institute of Australia promotes the value of design and designers to industry, business, government and the community. The DIA provides a vibrant networking base on a state, national and international level.
