Workshopped 2011

February 16, 2011

Workshopped is on the lookout for emerging Australian designers to participate in the 2011 exhibition at Sydney Design.

Applications are now open for Workshopped 2011, an annual exhibition promoting the work of emerging Australian designers.

Workshopped has been running as an annual exhibition, held in August to coincide with Sydney Design, working as a catalyst for designers looking to launch their designs in the commercial marketplace. The first exhibition in 2001 displayed designs by just five designers; in 2010, the exhibition featured the work of 42 designers from across Australia. Over 75,000 people visited Workshopped 2010 during its ten-day stay at Chifley Plaza.

The eleventh annual exhibition will investigate the influence of chaos in design, asking designers: “How has chaos impacted your design event?”

Raymond Scott of Workshopped explains: “The idea came from the chaos the weather has been unleashing on us recently. There is so much freeform design out there now, which is also reflected in architecture and how we live.”

Workshopped has become a key event in the Australian design calendar, building the careers of the country’s young design talents. The steady growth of the exhibition over the last ten years is, Scott believes, testament to the opportunities and exposure offered by the annual show.

“The exhibition for designers is a great way of breaking through, it’s hard to get noticed out there and the exhibition is a good source of talent. We have very strong relationships with our designers and are constantly supporting them with advice, product development and now retailing their products.”

In addition to the exhibition, Workshopped now runs a ["design store":] in Surry Hills – giving Workshopped designers year-round exposure to a broader audience.
