Australia Medal for designer Madeline Lester

Interior Designer Madeline Lester has been awarded the Australia Medal for her contribution to the Australian design industry.

DIA member and interior designer Madeline Lester LFDIA has been presented with the Australia Medal for “services to the profession of interior design as a practitioner and educator, and to the promotion of the industry in a range of roles within national and international representative organisations”.

Lester was named a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia on Australia Day 2011. She has been a key player in the Australian design industry, and is a past president and board member of the IFI, a National President of the DIA, NSW State President of the DIA and Director and Chair of the highly acclaimed Sydney Design 99.

Teaching positions include roles as Adjunct Associate Professor of Design and Acting Head of Interior Architecture at the University of New South Wales and Lecturer at the School of Design, University of Technology Sydney.

In practice, Lester was a founding partner of Interni Design and is now Design Manager and Principal of Madeline Lester Design Management.

Current DIA National President Oliver Kratzner said: “It gives me great pleasure to congratulate [Madeline Lester] on becoming a Member of the Order of Australia. It is public recognition for the many years of dedicated service [she] has given to the profession. From practice and education to local and international representation at the highest level, [Madeline] has successfully covered the whole gamut… with humour and humanity.”
