Suters Architects to work with ARTAS Architects on $22m Blundstone Arena redevelopment in Bellerive, Tasmania.

Suters Architects and ARTAS Architects have been appointed for the redevelopment of the Blundstone Arena in Bellerive, near Hobart.

The $22 million redevelopment project will increase the cricket stadium’s capacity to 20,000 and deliver elite training, gym and rehabilitation facilities to cater for international cricket and national football (AFL) matches.

The new stand is expected to replace existing infrastructure on the eastern side of the ground, and will also provide a new entry to the ground. The new addition will house the elite training and rehabilitation facilities, and will also be connected to a refurbished Members’ Stand.

For Suters Architects, this appointment follows the recent completion of another elite sporting facility – the Richmond Football Club in Melbourne. The firm is already working alongside ARTAS on the Devonport Aquatic Centre in northern Tasmania.

Suters Melbourne Design Leader, Joshua McAlister, said: “We are looking forward to working with ARTAS and Cricket Tasmania on the development of a key note sporting venue for an iconic site… Suters is already currently collaborating with ARTAS on the $14 million Devonport Aquatic Centre due for completion next year. We are excited to continue this successful working relationship on such a significant sporting project.”

The Blundstone Arena, previously known as the Bellerive Oval, currently has capacity for 15,500. Work on the redevelopment project is due for completion in 2015.
