August 17, 2010

The new issue of Architectural Review Australia, AR116: Future Cities, is now on newsstands.

The current issue of Architectural Review Australia is themed ‘Future Cities’, focusing on the ambitious and speculative schemes created for the Australian Pavilion at the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale. A series of essays discuss these striking visions of the future of Australian cities, which form part of the Now + When exhibition, while Andrew Mackenzie interviews the show’s Creative Directors, John Gollings and Ivan Rijavec.

Cox Architects’ new Rectangular Stadium in Melbourne’s Olympic Park is this issue’s cover story. Beneath its roof of intersecting domes and space age exterior, Stuart Harrison identifies a brave new kind of building.

Other projects featured include iredale pedersen hook’s Perth Information Centre, Architects EAT’s Elm House, and Wright Feldhusen’s Injidup Residence.

Also in this issue, the stage one report from AR’s design competition, Proposition 2065. Each of the four shortlisted projects is discussed in detail, followed by a snapshot of every entry to this year’s competition.

Finally, this month’s practice profile features Sydney practice, Mac-Interactive Architects, whose recent work includes Stirling Residence, Challis Penthouse and the PYD retail space on Sydney’s Danks Street.
