IDEA 2011 Gala Party

November 29, 2011

The Wood Marsh-designed ACCA in Melbourne was transformed into a stage for this year’s IDEA Gala Party with an installation by Designer of the Year, Edwards Moore.

The IDEA Gala Party was held in Melbourne this November, with a celebratory evening marking the culmination of (inside) magazine’s prestigious annual awards program.

Hosted inside the galleries of the Wood Marsh-designed Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) on Friday 25 November, this year’s sell-out Gala Party hosted over 500 members of the Australian design industry for the awards presentation and gala party event.

An installation created by Melbourne designers Edwards Moore, working with lighting company Bluebottle, enlivened the white walls of the galleries with a sequence of light, colour and film projections celebrating this year’s winning projects.

The awards presentation began with a performance by Strange Fruit – a Melbourne-based art company whose work fuses theatre, dance and circus. Perched above the audience on five-metre high flexible poles, three dancers swayed and sprung through the air in a hypnotic performance. The winners of this year’s awards were then revealed, with guests continuing the celebrations inside the galleries of ACCA before moving on to the official after party at Silk Road.

This year’s IDEA attracted a record number of 416 entries, submitted by designers and practices from across Australia. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners, and our thanks to the designers, judges and sponsors who help make IDEA the most successful independent interior design awards program in Australia.
