March 24, 2010

Boral announces the launch of their fifth conceptual residential design award.

Boral has announced that the fifth Boral Design Award will launch on 1 May 2010.

The conceptual residential design award program celebrates innovative yet realistic residential building design. This year, entrants will be asked to respond to the challenge of Australia’s changing housing needs and reduced land sizes, and consider adaptability, sustainability and affordability.

The brief is to design a detached residential dwelling with a floor area of 125sqm and its landscape. The prize pool for winners this year is $34,000, spread over three categories.

For their design concepts, entrants are asked to specify from a range of selected Boral products including clay bricks, concrete pavers, retaining walls, roof tiles, timber flooring, windows and bi-fold doors.

Glenn Simpkin, Boral General Manager of Marketing & Sales, said the company was “excited to be associated with an award that strives for new directions in the suburban built environment”.

In 2010, the jury of industry representatives includes Tone Wheeler from Environa Studio in Sydney, Paul Owen from Owen and Vokes in Brisbane, Nick Drougas from Metricon in Melbourne, Glenn Simpkin from Boral and Jury Chair Andrew Mackenzie, editor-in-chief of _Architectural Review Australia_ magazine.

The 2010 Boral Design Award opens on 1 May and closes on 30 September. In the professional category, first prize is $20,000 and second prize is $10,000. In the student category, first prize is $4,000.

Boral Design Award entrants must submit a written component and digital imagery of up to five physical models or 3D renders of their concept. The entry pack, in addition to resources, can be downloaded at ["www.designaward.boral.com.au":http://www.boral.com.au/boral-design-awards/index.asp]
