Victorian Government to spend $363m on Melbourne Park redevelopment.

Stage One of the redevelopment masterplan for Melbourne Park, designed by Cox Architects and Populous, was given the go ahead today in an announcement by Victorian Premier John Brumby.

Stage One will include a new retractable roof for Margaret Court, along with additional seating in the stands bringing the stadium’s capacity to 7,500, as well as upgrade work on Rod Laver and Hisense arenas.

It also includes a new Eastern Plaza, providing an extra 21 courts and warm up area.

Construction is due to begin in April 2010, with Stage One due for completion in time for the 2015 Australian Open.
