Finalists for UTS Podium Competition announced

December 13, 2009

Five shortlisted firms will compete to ‘redefine the face of UTS’.

The finalists have been selected for the UTS Podium Design Competition.

The five teams that have made it through to the second stage are: DesignInc, Hames Sharley, Johnson Pilton Walker, Lacoste + Stevenson with Daryl Jackson Robin Dyke, and Tonkin Zulaikha Greer.

The selection of finalists follows stage one of the competition, in which Australian architects were invited to submit design concepts for the Podium Extension, along with capability statements demonstrating their suitability for the project based on past performance.

The competition organisers hope the new building, expected to attain a 4 star Green Star rating, will “help to redefine the face of UTS and the character of Broadway”.

The extension to Building 1, a 32-storey landmark tower, and Building 2, the neighbouring podium building, is part of the UTS Campus Master Plan 2020. The new extension will provide a new main entry to the Broadway Precinct of the city campus, covering a stretch of Broadway measuring approximately 130 metres.

The five teams will each receive $40,000 for reaching the second stage, and now have until 15 February 2010 to complete their stage two submissions.
