Internationally awarded designer Karim Rashid creates distinctive metal tile collection for ALLOY Australia.

Internationally awarded designer Karim Rashid has launched a range of metal tiles for Australian firm ALLOY, creating a unique collection of eight metal tile ‘cells’ for interior and exterior designs.

“This collection for ALLOY is organic in shape because I believe that the world needs a softening and a more fluid human spirit,” said Rashid.

The surface patterns created by repeated tiles are given a new emphasis, with Rashid’s curvilinear tiles designed to contradict the square tile, creating an elegant and distinctive finish.

“I have always been obsessed with patterns. Working with ALLOY has given me a great opportunity to play with the idea of pattern, grid and repetitions,” explains Rashid. “The more diversity of line, shape and composition, the more interesting a single cell is.”

The collection features designs called flux, infinit, karma, ninja, kismet, ubiquity and kink. Each of the designs is available in high quality metals and finishes including copper, stainless steel (brushed finish, mirror finish, 2b finish), raw steel, brass and titanium.

ALLOY Design Director Jonathon Worner said the company was excited to be working on the unique range with Rashid. “We have a history of challenging the boundaries of traditional tile design and manufacture and the organic style of The Karim for ALLOY collection provides a visual fluidity with metal tiles that has not been achieved before,” he said.

ALLOY is the first Australian company Rashid has collaborated with, and follows several projects designed by Rashid that specified the company’s solid metal tiles – including the Semiramis Hotel in Greece, Nooch restaurant in Singapore, and Majik Cafe in Belgrade.

The Karim for ALLOY collection is available exclusively through ALLOY. ["":]
