OHM Overview
Established in 2008, Open House Melbourne (OHM) is an independent non-profit organisation that believes the architecture of our city is a reflection of our culture. The buildings we design today, and those we protect, will form our future heritage and define the Melbourne of tomorrow. Our city explains our past, represents the present and offers insights into our future. Our activities focus on providing unique opportunities for the community to better understand the legacy of good design and its role in our future.

After six successful years, Open House Melbourne is going through an exciting period of growth. This includes the opportunity to engage a CEO to ensure the organisation continues to be successful and sustainable in the future.

The CEO will be responsible for successfully implementing the board’s strategic plan and providing leadership, direction and oversight of all aspects of the business, whilst ensuring the organisation’s long-term sustainability. In addition to daily management of the organisation, securing funding will be one of the core functions of the role.

Profile
The right candidate will be an effective leader and team builder; goal and performance oriented; collaborative in spirit while being entrepreneurial and innovative, and able to effectively engage a wide range of stakeholders and organisations throughout Melbourne. A good understanding of Melbourne and its design history, and a commitment to the principles of good design, are essential.

Key responsibilities:
Fundraising
• Review and enhance existing sponsorship strategy and work with the Board to secure ongoing funding for the organisation and future projects.
• Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with existing and potential funding partners.

Strategy and organisational profile
• Organisational planning and management to deliver OHM’s strategic plan and priorities across key areas – funding and year-round programming.
• Promote the organisation’s purpose and goals, and demonstrate ways to achieve them.
• Enhance the profile of OHM throughout Melbourne by establishing strategic partnerships and relationships.
• Assist in the development of marketing and promotional opportunities.

Management of resources
• Create a positive work environment where all staff, contractors and volunteers are motivated to do their best.
• Provide operational leadership to the team to ensure on-time execution of key events and deliverables.
• Ensure the large volunteer base is actively engaged and motivated to retain their ongoing support and involvement.
• Oversee and have overall accountability for the successful delivery of the annual OHM event and program.

Governance, compliance and financial accountability
• Report to the board at regular meetings.
• Assist the Treasurer with financial records/systems and the development and maintenance of budgets.
• Responsibly allocate and account for the use of financial resources weighing alternatives and their benefits.
• Maintain appropriate governance and compliance across all areas of the business.

Selection Criteria
• Strong established networks and the ability to engage with high level stakeholders.
• Significant experience in fundraising and partnership development.
• Demonstrated strategic and operational leadership; proven ability to lead a small team.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen.
• Highly motivated, energetic; able to meet deadlines and prioritise.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills.
• Good understanding of Melbourne and its design history.
• A belief in and general knowledge of the principles of good design.
