Experience the innovation and creativity of Victoria’s emerging young designers. Explore furniture, fashion, graphic and product design, film, print layout, photography, animation, food product planning, websites and mechanical and electronic projects created by VCE Food and Technology, Media, Product Design and Technology, Systems Engineering, VET Interactive Digital Media and Visual Communication Design students.

Works were selected from nearly 1300 submissions and cover the gamut of design practice including fashion, furniture, graphic design, animation, film, digital media, food and mechanical and electronic design. The array of outstanding work includes stunning macro photography of reptiles and insects, a sleek bench seat made from Victorian ash, jarrah and African fabric, an exoskeleton which can lift 150kg and assist with walking and a variety of eye-catching graphic design for logos, posters, labels and more.

Perhaps less easy on the eye, but no less innovative is the Kynobot welder’s bench. Already in use by welders in Ballarat and Donald, it provides design solutions on multiple levels. It offers an OH&S answer to repetitive strain injuries within the metal fabrications industry, a cost-effective alternative to fully automated robotic systems and helps engineering businesses remain competitive whilst also retaining jobs for manual workers.

Top Designs 2017 is complemented by a range of educational programs, including introductory talks and forums which provide exceptional advice and inspiration to current VCE and VET design students from industry professionals, state reviewers and senior teachers.
