When:  28 August - 11 October.  Tue – Fri 11am – 6pm, Sat 12 – 5pm
Where: RMIT Design Hub, Melbourne

The Factory gives visitors a chance to experience the future of manufacture and design, with the space fitted with high tech machinery including 3D printers, robots and a CNC milling machine, all run by RMIT technicians and industrial design students. The machinery will be housed at the RMIT Design Hub for the duration of The Future Is Here exhibition, put to work creating and testing experimental projects.

The exhibition will explore the exciting potential of modern fabrication tools; compact enough to sit on a desk, easy and affordable enough to be suitable for widespread home use. It is a staggering concept that in today's society, a lone practitioner is now able to see a product through from concept to realisation - a process that would traditionally involve teams of designers, technicians, manufacturers and distributors.

The Future is Here will also showcase cutting edge new thinking from the RMIT Design Hub research community. This local content will appear amongst stimulating internationally-sourced works from the London Design Museum.

Projects on show will sample the groundbreaking work of contemporary craftspeople, artists, architects and designers utilising advanced digital processes. The Future Is Here examines the new mode of design through all stages of the process, from conception, prototyping and evaluation through to the end product. The exhibition aims to encourage a dialogue on society's growing fascination for tools of digital production such as 3D printers, drones and robots.

The Future is Here is a touring exhibition created by the Design Museum, London, co-curated with RMIT Design Hub.
