In Fitzroy, the suburb that revers the macchiato and latte with gusto, it is heartening to see Modern Times’ new exhibition that places the art of tea making through the humble teapot front and centre.

The latest exhibition at the gallery, known for showcasing restored furniture and the work of Australian artists and makers, presents The Teapot Project, a collaboration between Hendrik Forster and Kenny Yong-soo Son.

On view is a series of 30 teapots created from a variety of materials that include polished 24-carat gold and copper patination and red gum, and each teapot is perfectly sized at 750-millilitres ensuring there is enough tea to share with a friend.

The exhibition brings together the experience and talent of Forster, who is recognised as one of Australia’s foremost gold and silversmiths, and Yong-soo Son, a young designer with a bright future ahead. Together they have combined their knowledge, styles and individual cultural histories to create a unique product that is both beautiful and practical.

The nuances of tea making and drinking is taken to another level with The Teapot Project and tea drinkers will certainly be rejoicing.
