How are European landscape architects responding to the profound social, economic and ecological change of the early 21st century? This is one of several key questions to be considered by eminent European landscape architecture academic and writer, Professor Lisa Diedrich in a public lecture at RMIT University’s Practice Research Symposium (25 October).

Professor Diedrich will also look at examples of outstanding European landscape architecture from the last 30 years and consider how the discipline has benefited from the economic and societal developments of 20th century Europe.

As the editor-in-chief of the book series, Landscape Architecture Europe (Fieldwork/On Site/In Touch), and the co-editor of ‘scape – the international magazine for landscape architecture and urbanism, Professor Diedrich is part of an initiative committed to observing the evolution of European landscape architecture and fostering the profession via debate, reflection and exchange of ideas.

Currently professor of landscape architecture at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, she was editor in chief of In Touch/Landscape Architecture Europe, which won the 2012 DAM architectural book award.

From 2000 to 2006, she was a personal consultant to Munich’s chief architect at the city’s public construction department. Since then, she has worked as an academic for universities in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, UK, Norway, Denmark and Australia (the University of New South Wales).

Professor Diedrich is on the doctoral examination panels for landscape architects and RMIT PhD candidates Kate Cullity (TCL), Perry Lethlean (TCL) and Anton James. Cullity and Lethlean are being examined on Wednesday, 23 October, while James will be examined on Friday, 25 October.
