Parlour Inc, an advocacy group that promotes gender equity in Australian architecture, is hosting a Soiree in collaboration with the University of Melbourne and Australian Institute of Architects on 14 May 2015.

During the event, Parlour will announce its plans for the coming year, new alliances with other organistions and details about its new funding campaign.  Speakers will include Emma Williamson, chair of the National Committee for Gender Equity, as well as guest speaker Ann Lau.

Parlour was recently awarded a US$14,000 grant by the Wikimedia Foundation, to increase the visibility of women in the architecture, urbanism, design and construction industries on Wikipedia.  Working together with Architexx in New York, and n-ails in Berlin, Parlour developed an international education and and advocacy program that would enable more Wikipedia articles to be written on women in architecture and the built environment.

In April, Parlour participated in the “Women. Wikipedia. Design” initiative on International Women’s Day 2015, organising events where people could write Wikipedia entries for women involved in architecture and the built environment.  Writing parties were organised in Sydney and Melbourne.  Since their campaign, the number of Australian women architects on Wikipedia has increased from ten to forty.
