The Lord Mayor’s BlueScopeWIN Aboriginal Art Award opening will be held at the Wollongong Art Gallery today, celebrating the quality and diversity of art practice among the Illawarra and South Coast Aboriginal artists and the richness of indigenous arts and culture in the region.

The opening will feature two-dimensional, three-dimensional and multimedia artworks submitted by Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders who were born or live in the Illawarra or South Coast of NSW.

The opening will also provide artists the opportunity to gain potential buyers for their work and submitted artworks can be sold through the gallery.

A judging panel consisting of industry representatives, will go through a blind judging process to determine a first (Major prize: $5,000), second ($1,000), and third ($500) place winners.

Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery OAM will officially open the event at 6:30pm on Friday 12 June and the prize winners will be announced shortly after.

The opening will also include BlueScope Australia and New Zealand Communications and Community Manager, Craig Nealon as a guest speaker on the night.

Refreshments will be available and all people are welcome to attend the exhibition, which will continue through to 19 July 2015.
